A bettor earned a substantial sum by predicting the removal of Venezuela's president immediately preceding it was officially announced, leading to inquiries about potential gains made from non-public details of the US operation.

Bets placed on the crypto-platform, an online prediction market, that the leader would be out of power by the close of the month increased in the hours before President Donald Trump declared on January 3rd that the Venezuelan leader had been apprehended.
One account, which became a member last month and made four bets, all on Venezuela, earned over $436K from a starting bet of over $32,000.
Who placed the bet is a mystery. The anonymous account had only a blockchain identifier for identification.
Odds Fluctuate Before Public Statement
Market statistics shows that users estimated the likelihood of Maduro's exit at just under 7% in the midday period of the Friday before the event.
However the odds had jumped to over 10% by shortly before midnight and surged in the first hours of Saturday, suggesting a sharp shift in market sentiment immediately prior to the social media post was made.
"This specific wager has all the characteristics of a transaction based on confidential knowledge," stated an industry expert.
A handful of other traders also earned tens of thousands of dollars from similar wagers.
